To the Ends of the Earth

When thinking about what this painting could symbolize, its message wasn’t initially clear.
I knew I wanted to have the Mediterranean Sea as part of the Holy Land Collection, even though it’s not one of the famous holy places. But for me, it was a very peaceful place. A perfect place to begin the journey of walking in Jesus’ footsteps.
It’s fitting that this should be the first painting I create in the collection. When I look at it, I think about how blessed I am to have been there. How blessed we are to have a Holy Land - a land set apart by God. And how blessed we are that we have been invited into God’s family through Jesus and the Gospel message.
I tried to think about what part the Mediterranean Sea would have played in Jesus’ life. What would it have meant to Him? And while I can’t recall him visiting the sea specifically (he did visit coastal towns), I imagine it would’ve been a very important part of His life. The sea was were the gentiles came from. It’s where the foreign world entered the Chosen world... but it’s also where the Chosen world was brought to the foreign world.
The Gospel was brought to the gentiles by that Sea. Because of this, 2000 years later I have the Gospel. You have the Gospel.
So, I believe it is fitting for to begin our journey here, at the sea. With gratitude of what we have been given and a hope to what lies ahead.
“But you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Some fun facts:
🚶🚶‍♂️🚶🚶‍♂️The four people on the beach represent the 4 Gospel writers.
🏝To give you a little perspective, Nazareth is less than an hour drive to the sea.
