TIBERIAS

Alongside the Sea
6" x 7.5"
soft pastel on sanded paper
This lake has been called many different names throughout history. It’s been the Sea of Kinneret, Chinnereth Sea, Lake Tiberias, the Lake of Gennesaret; we know it now as the Sea of Galilee.
The name, Sea of Galilee, is uniquely Christian. The earliest Christians used it to display the belief that Jesus is the fulfillment of the prophecy from Isaiah.
Matthew 4:14-16
That what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
"The land of Zeb'ulun and the land of Naph'tali, alongside the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles-
the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned."
This painting is inspired by the view I had from my balcony in Tiberias.
The sun rising brings to light the reality of the Person who walked alongside this sea.
