When I began this Holy Land Collection, I purposely began during the season of Lent. A time of repentance and discomfort.  

 

The wilderness is so significant in scripture. The Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years before they entered the promised land. People went to the wilderness to repent and be baptized by John. Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness before He began His public ministry. 

 

There's something so raw about being stripped of comfort. There's a part of us that can only be revealed through suffering and dryness. It shows us that we are nothing without God. 

 

As you look at this painting, enter into the wilderness with the Lord. Let Him strip you and prepare you. Let Him reveal our humility; because it is in our humility that we can truly understand His love.
